EmailWE’RE TEAMING UP WITH THE SMALLS STREET SOUNDS
A new generation of sound is about to take short filmmaking to the next level and now Humanbeatbox.com is tuned in. We’re excited to be collaborating with the interactive sound event The Smalls Street Sounds on various activities in the months ahead.
THE SMALLS STREET SOUNDS
Make history. Tune into one of the biggest sound collaboration ever. Your beats, rhythms and musical sounds could inspire an award-winning short film.
Since 2006 The Smalls has been a curator of independent short film and music, committed to the discovery and promotion of new talent through the community website TheSmalls.com. On December 14th 2009, The Smalls Street Sounds was launched – this brand new interactive event champions the use of diverse sounds collected by the public for filmmaking projects. The event is designed to encourage and support artists to listen to, be inspired by and use sounds in a new way to tell their stories.
How can you participate?
During the first phase of The Smalls Street Sounds, you are invited to upload your own mp3 sound recordings. These can be anything from you simulating a string instrument to an entire musical track you have produced or simply a recording of something in your local neighborhood.
Uploaded sounds are made available to other users, searchable via a new interactive application called the Sound Map, specifically designed for you to be able to listen to and upload sounds from around the U.S.
Along with becoming part of a historic sound collaboration, everybody who uploads sounds enters a draw for a free iPod touch. To start uploading sounds now, go to the Sound Map.
What happens with the sounds you upload?
The second phase of The Smalls Street Sounds will call on filmmakers to use the Sound Map to create a short film inspired by available audio clips. Films will be required to use at least three sounds from the Sound Map, be less than 3:00 minutes in length, and all sounds that are used must be credited.
Those who compete will have their films voted on by The Smalls community and a panel consisting of film, TV and media professionals. Winning filmmakers will be featured in a full-page ad in Variety, receive a new digital video camera, and an electronic press kit created by The Smalls.
After the filmmaking competition has run its course, the Sound Map will remain open as a resource for artists and filmmakers everywhere. It is our ambition to have 5,000 sounds uploaded by end of March 2010 and we believe it will continue to grow as an innovative and imaginative tool way into the future.
Together we can create new, exciting opportunities for artists; The Smalls Street Sounds looks forward to welcoming you to the Sound Map.
