EmailYo, this is Beat Rhino representing the Fresh Beats Inc! beatbox crew from Irvine, California of USA. This battle was hosted by our crew and Youth Action Team of Irvine and sponsored by Akufuncture Clothing. This was the first beatbox competition officially recognized by Human Beatbox organization in Orange County, California, of USA.
The event was dope. There were more people than expected, and although there were only four contestants, Vibe from Pose crew (the creator of Excellent Beatbox that has +4million views and beatboxed for 15 years) showed up to put out a guest performance and guest judge for the final round. Before the battles began, Professional Bboy L10 and several other Bboys put out an exhibition battle. Then, there was a Showcase round for ranking the beatboxers, then Semi Finals and Finals. The judges looked for Technique, Musicality, Crowd Response, Flow, and Clarity and scored each beatboxer out of 10 on each category for each round, and totaled the score.
On the Semi Finals, Beat Rhino and Airickq battled it out 1st. Beat Rhino came up with taunts and simple beats, but Airickq decimated with the click rolls and the transformer beat. Next, Basswind and Metronome went head to head. Both had great technicality, but Basswind lacked the rhythm that Metronome showed with full clarity.
During the intermission after the Semi Finals, Vibe from Pose Crew arrived at the event and gave out a sick guest performance. He performed beats like Counting the ABC and the Inspector Gadget cover. He also judged with the three original judges for the final battle.
In the final battle, it was Metronome vs Airickq. In the first round, Airickq showed Metronome up with some fast beats and clean Kenny Muhammad snares. Metronome came back with air scratches and clean fundamental vocal percussioning. In the second round, Airickq came out with Faith SFX's click rolls and the I Can Make Your Bed Rock cover. However, Metronome's comeback with This is Why I'm Hot and other covers' improvised taunts ultimately gave him the boost for winning the battle, and therefore the Battle.
For winning, Metronome received $100 Cash Prize, the trophy with the Battle's logo and a jacket provided by Akufuncture Clothing. Airickq, finishing 2nd place, received two shirts, also from Akufuncture Clothing. After the battles finished, the beatboxers got together for pictures and live beatbox sessions.
Big Shoutout to Humanbeatbox.com for recognizing and posting this event on the page, Vibe for the guest appearance, YAT for organizing & advertising the event with our Fresh Beats Inc! crew for FREE, KayG and Q-Flush for judging, DJ Synthasis for DJ'ing for the event, Bboy L10 and the bboys for the exhibition battle, Basswind and Metronome for showing up for battle, and the great crowd for coming out and making it a great battle.
