I posted my first videos on this site a few months ago and later wished I hadn't. I'm sure plenty will remember me doing crazy things with very little beatbox technique then posting way too long comments in response to those who wanted to know what the hell I thought I was doing. Hmm. Well, anyway, the main lesson I took from that was I'd better practice harder! Anyways, that's what I've been doing, as much as possible. Meanwhile I've learned a lot more by just watching videos and soaking up the discussion here. Shout out to Friendship - thanks for the breathing exercise, it really helps! Super big grito to Daguswan for all your encouragement. Que lastima que no puedes venir a NYC! ...I'm very excited about Boxcon in just a couple days and hope to meet, greet and beatbox with many other beatboxers. I hope that these 2 videos will make a better impression than the last ones, even while I obviously still need to sharpen up a lot (I've been beatboxing now for 10 months). 1) Freestyle: I think I'm starting to conquer breathing, and I'm beginning to explore all the sounds you get with lip oscillations... 2) A piece of my Beeayboll Project, which is increasingly influenced by beatbox techniques (last time I called this "phonetic beatbox"). (I'm doing a concert with this project, 8/16 in New York.)
Please comment!!

You still have a long way to go...
I dont get the booyalee or whatever thing. I just dont. You just say random words and throwin ia kick and a big inward breath. You are performing a concert with that??..................... And the beats, slow down. work on your individuals sounds first before you try to do intricate beats. Is just you with a kick drum, fast and messy tks, and a inward pff snare which kills any rhythm. Watch these videos back, and you will see...hopefully. But relax and work on power and crispness of your sounds. put it into simple beats. then give it a while before you try anything crazy..... |

SLOW.DOWN.
For real though...feel the beats...going so fast=sloppy for most beatboxers and you can't really get in the groove. also I agree with TT..not really feelin the first vid See ya at boxcon!

ECHO-ECHo-ECho-Echo-echo... Metronome at sixty, do a similar exercise to the breathing one. Interchange with any sounds. All groupings are 1 measure (4 beats) long. BTKT, BbTKT, BTtKT, BTKkT, BTKTt, BTKT,(triplets) BbbTKT, BTttKT, BTKkkT(my enemy), BTKTtt, BTKT, then Do it with sixteenth notes, eighth note triplets... whatever.
Keep working, man! Awesome progress!! -f |

Thanks for the comments everyone. You're all exactly right of course. Sometimes I think that more important than all the tutorials and everything else is learning how to relax. That's always been a hard one for me. I work at night, drink enormous amounts of coffee and sleep 3-4 hours daily - not exactly the best formula for relaxation, eh? Although, strangely enough, my best beatboxing these days (WAY better than these videos, I swear!), happens while I'm at work. To me, working and beatboxing is way more natural than performing for a video camera on a bathroom shelf!
Anyways, I'll keep practicing and try to slow down sometimes too (what can I do, I've always had super-fast music in my head, long before I ever had a notion about beatboxing or heard of Skiller...). As for Beeayboll - you know, the "words" - it's OK if no one likes it. I do. If you're really curious what it is, or why I do it, I can explain more, but I won't do so here (got myself in trouble last time!). Friendship - thanks for that exercise, I'm going to try it. You should make some tutorials! After learning some sounds, beginner beatboxers like me really need some good drills! Looking forward to seeing everyone at Boxcon (good luck in the finals Lucky Monkey...)
