Default >> BEATBOXING DOCUMENTARY + WIN CONVENTION DVD ON 1XTRA (RADIO/WEB) <<

An in-depth documentary about beatboxing will be broadcast on UK radio station 1Xtra later today, Wednesday 21st January 2004.

Appropriately entitled 'Make Some Noise', the documentary investigates how beatboxing has changed since the early hip hop days, how it has recently lost its novelty tag and gained credibility, and it asks the question: where is beatboxing going?

Make Some Noise features many of the biggest names in the scene as well as up&coming talent from around the world. The doc' includes: Doug E Fresh, Rahzel, Killa Kela, A-Plus, Psylent V, TyTe, Kid Lucky, Shlomo, Annointed S, Nino G and many more.

When the documentary goes out I will be live in the studio talking about the scene and there will also be a competition to win a copy of the Human Beatbox Convention DVD (good luck if you havn't already got a copy!).

The documentary goes out at 5:30pm GMT and is 30 minutes long (so I will be live on-air at around 6:00pm).

I'd recommend tuning in at around 5:20pm if you want to be on the safe side and hear the question for the competition (which will be based on the documentary so listen carefully!). The documentary goes out during a show called 'TX Unlimited'.

PS. If you are not in the UK click here to find out what the equivalent time will be in your time zone when the documentary is broadcast.

You know, the Brits (is that bad...to say 'brits'?) impress me in a lot of ways- Audio documentaries are reeeaaallly fresh! NPR in the US makes audio docs a bit- but the UK radio seems so much more innovative...I'll DEFINITELY be listening.

God-Of-Noize...if you can't find your location on the time-table, you could always click on LONDON for the current time, compare it with your current time, and figure the difference.

EDIT: AH! Psylent V's in it! Fresssh...I hung out with this cat at Roskilde and he just blew me away- In his talent and in his personality/intellect. I figured he was 22 or so for the entire festival until I came home and read his bio...What are you now V? 17?! fuckin' prodigies....messing up the grading curve....(holla at ya Seattle homie sonnnnn!!!!)

when shlo was on they didn't even once say "wow how do you do that with your mouth" they were like "you're the beatbox let's turn the music off and hear some"

2004 is magic.

2-0-sicks have you heard a-plus beatbusking? it was a radio 1 documentary thing - go ask him if he has a clip

BeatBusking?!?! Oh my gawd! We're on the next level like that?!?!

(I have nooo idea....I definitely want a clip! Plus?)

Actually A-Plus...What's up with our Roskilde creation- the HotPotato Beatboxing? Between Plus, Psylent V, Dukebox, Monkee Moo, and myself we created a game/ excersise everyone should give a try...

Take 3 beatboxers- 1 on beat, 1 on Bass/melody, and 1 on scratches...Every two bars pass your component to the left, and pick up the component coming from your right. Hot Potato! (does that make annnny sense?) I'll show you at the convention!

But back to the Beatbusking....gimme gimme....

Default gimme some money

Yes beatbusking... I've had a variety of interesting experiences... check out these old threads:

1. 28th April 2003 - A-Plus 'beatbusking' on Radio 1 tonight! (offending MP3 is here - a little snippet of what i did in that documentary...must find the rest sometime...was a laugh)

2. 2nd May 2003 - A-Plus Beatbusking Vol. #2

3. 15th May 2003 - Report: A-Plus goes Beatbusking (actually made some money! first time had an amp)

4. 31st May 2003 - A-Plus And Spitkicka Go Beatbusking

Beatbusking does work.. I know white noise was making a good regular buck or two from it a while back... the essential ingredient is definitely an amp. this way people hear you from afar and pay attention, then they give you money. its great!) Big up Spitkicka for supporting me on the beatbusk missions.

Hot Potato> yes I remember, that was dope. i did try it at the King of The Jam in the summer after I got back from Roskilde, and I've even tried it with Drool Skool but it's never seemed to work like it did in the summer... we had something magical going on... or did we beatbox too much that week? we should've recorded that.. we were on fire!

Fire!!!

Remember that Basketball video game where your basketball turns into flames and you could always sink a Tre? We had that. But with beats. Not basketballs. There was no basketball at Roskilde. Only beats. This is redundant. And it's also excessive....perhaps a little superfluous.

Excessive...perhaps... like the amounts of kicks and snares we distributed at Roskilde in one week... excessive like a hot potato that's so hot it's all charred and burnt on the outside but still tasty on the inside. Superfluous like staying up til 3am again, in front of a computer screen. Damn.

Yeah the documentary should be available on the 1Xtra site after tonight (although the live stuff in the studio won't be included).

"Guys! I'm going to edit this shit and post the video as SOON as I get back to the states...."

-William Lemke, July 1st 2003 (Regarding the amazing Roskilde footage he has of A-Plus, Dukebox, Psylent V, Monkey Moo, himself, Dj Renegade, and poppers dancing to aforementioned artists.)

Right! Well...you see...wha' ha' happened was....it's interesting really.....I...uhh..

GAWD!!! Must you hold me to such expectations!!!...that I created! haha...

ok, it's been long enough- A-Plus...you get the pics together, and I promise I'll bang out something slightly resembling a video of it all. Yeah? Let's create a reasonable deadline...(I'm full time on my documentary, so reeeasonable....)...couple weeks?

Benardo! Are you coming to the NY convention? Let's get drunktaded.
