Depth is how far the sound appears to be away from the listener. Dry, compressed, loud sounds appear towards the front of the mix whereas quiet, uncompressed, reverberant sounds appear towards the back of the mix.

Width is the position of the layer within the stereo field, i.e. whether the sound appears to be coming more from the left or right of the listener.
