The Undead: Rotten Beatbox Spits

When I got an email from Eliot saying that they were releasing a CD/DVD, I eagerly waited for the parcel to arrive from Germany. Eliot was one of the first members of HUMANBEATBOX.COM back in the day when it was beatboxing.co.uk and his skills combined with Bina's production created some classic clips - any one remember 'Monster of Beat?' Anyway, it seems Eliot and his Undead crew of Zlep, Bina and Art of Beatbox have carried on the monster theme with this new release. I ripped open the parcel to discover copies of the slobber hungry, 2 disc, aficionado edition of Rotten Beatbox Spits. This set contained both the CD and DVD. My first problem - which to play first! I went for the CD.

The Undead: Rotten Beatbox Spits album cover

The CD contains 10 tracks from the masters of German beatbox. It kicks off with a superb multitracked (layered) track from Eliot. RIP.mics should be used in a computer game - with the layers and flavour being distinctly about getting you moving. Then comes Zlep's Schallgeschwimdigkeit - a driving tune complete with spooky sound effects. Art of Beatbox feat. Liroy is like a medley of tunes all in one track featuring some great beatboxing. Check out those hollow snares with MCing! Shall I go on??? This CD is crammed full of studio and live, solo and multi-tracked beatbox from some of Germany's finest. What these guys don't know about beatbox isn't worth knowing! Time to slap the DVD in the player...

Well, I won't give you a detailed breakdown of each video because it would spoil the surprise! However, what hits you between the eyes is the variety you get on this DVD - combining both old and new videos from the crew. The disc opens with Zleps 'schallgeschwimdigkeit' which follows the trailing mic lead and has Zlep following it (or should I write floating it) around - pure entertainment. This is followed by a great set from Eliot including my favourite Monster of Beat! Then there's the classic hip-hop track Handarbeit and the animated music video Livin' Beatbox from Beatbox Allstars. This is followed up with another hip-hop music video featuring Function and a suite of live videos infront of club and festival audiences from Bina and Eliot. Phew! An amazing collection featuring some classic videos.

So there it is. This double CD/DVD edition isn't just a collection of audio and video, it's the culmination of thousands of hours of studio and live experience.
