Let's Skanks!

Reeps One joins HBB affiliates Armitage Skanks @ Herbal

Considering Herbal has so many big names roll through, this is only the second time I've been. HBB affiliates, Armitage Skanks, had set up shop alongside Supatronix for a night of breaks covering both floors.

Downstairs the Supatronix crew lined up Far Too Loud, Jurassik, Nursery of Naughtiness, Phase 2 and AG4111. Some wicked breaks rumbled forth from the speakers, but unforch I have to say that the system in Herbal just doesn't cut the mustard. Plenty of volume, but nowhere near enough bass or dynamics. Still, this didn't stop everyone from chucking some shapes.

Upstairs, the Skanks went for a more eclectic line up featuring Niles and the African Revolution, Sandals of Justice, Black Tie DJs and Boy Wonder. The music swung all over the place, which kept us listeners on our proverbial toes! Starting off with a more reggae sound, the evening slowly upped the tempo until the time came for Reeps One to drop some national champion level beats. The crowd wasn't as big as expected, but for his part, the place defo got busier throughout his set. Whipping out a mix of some classic Reeps dub step routines and new breaks sounds created for the night, once again he showed why he fully deserves the title. It's fair to say there were a few jaws on the floor. Love it!

And so the night ended early for Queenie and I as the next day was about interviewing potential new housemates. Bummer, we could have gone to Brixton Jamm for the afterparty featuring Oribtal!!!!!
