EmailIt's rather difficult to do multiple kick drums in quick succession. So, here I will teach you not one, not two, but three different ways to do kick rolls. Kick rolls rely on an auditory illusion to make the kick drum sound very quickly. It is one of many techniques that will help you with faster beatbox routines. Remember, practice makes perfect!
To make the sound
1 - Learn the kick drum, then the dry kick (and learn how to do the dry kick with your lips together)
2 - Alternate between the kick drum and the dry kick, so you get BdBdBd - think of it as "buddha buddha buddha"
3 - These are the clearest and loudest kick rolls, and also the most frequently used
Alternatively...
1 - Alternate between a kick drum and a hi hat
2 - Do so quickly
3 - Note that this is quite hard to put into the middle of a beat, and suits better as a build up
Or...
1 - Learn the interconnecting hi hats
2 - Do them with your lips together
3 - Note that these are the fastest but quietest kick rolls
With some practice you can do incredibly fast beats, as I demonstrate in this nifty little freestyle based entirely around kick rolls.
Peace, love, and nirvana
