UNITY is hosting free beatbox classes every week!
What is UNITY?
UNITY is a wonderful charity that is helping youth overcome stressful lives through hiphop with free classes teaching breakdance, MCing, graffiti, and beatbox. UNITY is now working with Sparx and 10 other beatboxers including Scott Jackson, Beatspawn, Chris Fernandez and more to aid challenged youth to express themselves positively. The best part? It's working.
The beatbox community in Canada is growing rapidly thanks to programs like these while creating an immensely positively impact utilizing the art of beatbox.
When and where are the beatbox classes?
The beatbox classes are held at Sketch, which is located at 180 Shaw St., Toronto Ontario every Tuesday from 5pm - 7pm. This program will run until November 29th.
What will be taught?
Sparx will be leading workshops covering topics such as improving your musicality, how to win a beatbox battle, and how to create a beatbox routine - amongst many others.
What other things should we expect?
Again, all these programs are free and free meals are provided prior to the workshop. This is a wonderful opportunity to all who are looking for a new hobby, a new community, or just to make friends. The Canadian beatbox family is a exemplary scene that we are all proud of.
Sparx also runs monthly battles called Money in the Hat - Canadian Edition, which is a collaboration effort with Singapore beatbox.
Additionally, the UNITY festival hosts a beatbox battle yearly where the tag teams K-POM, the Fresh Boys, Spiderhorse, and more incredible beatboxers battle it out. They have also host world-class beatboxers such as Reeps One, Ball-Zee, Rahzel, and Babeli in the previous years.
