A rimshot is the sound created with a drum stick on the rim (side edge) of a snare drum. It has more of a wooden click sound than the sound of a snare being hit on the drum skin by a stick. In beatboxing, rimshots are collected together with other snare drum sounds and are therefore sometimes also called 'snares'.
