Welsh Beatbox Championships 2016

The 2016 Welsh Beatbox Championships are finally here!

On Saturday, May 28 at the Clwb Ifor Bach, Beatbox Wales and Mean Business Media will present the top battlers in the nation, competing to become the 2016 Welsh Beatbox Champion.

All entries close APRIL 30TH. Late entries will be accepted only under certain circumstances, such as a last minute drop-out from the competition.

Location, Time, and Hostel Information

Venue: Clwb Ifor Bach, 11 Womanby Street, Cardiff, CF10 1BR | 029 2023 2199

Time: 12PM to 11pm (The last final will be finished by 9:30pm)

TICKETS

+14’s : £5 (Includes 2 free guest passes)

Under 14’s: £2

(Under 14’s are allowed in the venue until 6 pm, 14+ but under 18’s until 9:30 pm and Under 18 competitors can stay until 10 pm (the last final will be finished by 9:30 pm)

MAIN SOLOS

To enter..

  • Record a 2 minute video (+ or – 20 seconds) of yourself Beatboxing without any editing or effects.
  • Upload the video to www.YouTube.com and post it on this page with the hash tag #WBC2016
  • Send an e-mail to [email protected] with these following details: Your Birth name, Beatbox/Stage name, mobile phone number, Age, Town/City you currently reside in plus a link to your entry video
  • Pay Entrance fee of £5 (this will also allow you to bring in 2 friends for free)

People who have completed ALL steps of the entry process will be chosen to perform an elimination round on the day in which Beatboxers will perform for 2 minutes each.

The best 15 will be placed into a play-off bracket by the judges. (along with the 2015 Welsh Beatbox Champion Chubbs)

In the round of the Final 16, Beatboxers will compete against another face-to-face. Winner of coin-toss will decide who goes first. The usual ‘A-B-A-B system’ will be implemented.

Round Times

Elimination round – (2 x) 2 minutes

Final 16 – (2 x) 1 min 30 secs

Quarter Final – (2 x) 1 min 30 secs

Semi Final – (2 x) 1 min 30 secs

3rd Place Play-Off (2 x) 1 min 30 secs

The Final – (2 x) 2 minutes

(In the event of a tie/draw, competitors will be ask to do an additional 1 minute each)

LOOP STATION BATTLES

To enter…

  • Record a 3 minute Beatbox video (+ or – 20 seconds) on your Loop Station of choice in one single take. Participants are allowed to use the effects on their Loop Station and as many additional pedals as required.
  • Upload the video to www.YouTube.com and post it directly onto this page with the hash tag #WBC2016
  • Send an e-mail to [email protected] with these following details: Your Birth name, Beatbox/Stage name, mobile phone number, Age, Town/City you currently reside in plus a link to your entry video
  • Pay Entrance fee of £5 (this will also allow you to bring in 2 friends for fee)

People who have completed ALL steps of the entry process will be chosen to perform an elimination round on the day in which Beatboxers will perform for 3 minutes each with their chosen loop set up. Effects within the loop stations are allowed. Winner of coin-toss will decide who goes first. The usual ‘A-B-A-B system’ will be implemented. We ask for Loop Station competitors to arrive at the venue at 11:15am to do a private sound check (other loopers will not be present at your sound check)

Semi Final – (2 x) 3 minutes

Final – (2 x) 3 minutes

(in the event of a tie/draw, competitors will be ask to do an additional 2 minutes each)

TAG TEAM BATTLES

To Enter..

  • Record a 2 minute video (+ or – 20 seconds) of yourselves Beatboxing simultaneously in one single take.
  • Upload the video to www.YouTube.com and post it directly onto this page with the hash tag #WBC2016
  • Send an e-mail to [email protected] with these following details: Your Birth names, Individual Beatbox/Stage names, Tag Team name, both your ages, Town/Cities you both currently reside in plus a link to your entry video
  • Pay Entrance fee of £5 (this will also allow you to bring in 2 friends for fee)

People who have completed ALL steps of the entry process will be chosen to perform an elimination round on the day in which Teams will perform for 2 minutes each. If there are only 4 team entries, then the Tag Team battles will go straight to the semi-finals. Winner of the coin-toss will decide who goes first. The usual ‘A-B-A-B system’ will be implemented.

FOZZY:

Local Beatbox veteran, Vauxhall Tribes Beatbox Champion, Top 8 in The 7-To-Smoke Battles (Basel, Switzerland), Top 8 European Masters.

OXBOX:

The current 2015 UK Beatbox Championships Loop Station Champion.

HEAVY TREBLE:

Cardiff Beatbox Battles Top 16, FlowCase Battles Top 4.

**an additional two extra judges may be added to the panel**

All Battles will be judged by our panel based on ‘THE TOMB’

* TECHNICALITY

* ORIGINALITY

* MUSICALITY

* BATTLE PROWESS/ SHOWMANSHIP

SHOWCASE LINEUP

  • HANN (Welsh Beatboxer, organiser of event)
  • FROSTY (First ever FlowCase Champion 2015 – Main Solos and Tag Teams [F-Low])
  • REDBEARD (Under 18 UK Beatbox Champion)

RULES/GUIDELINES

  • Competitors have to be Welsh or resident in Wales.
  • Entries close April 30th. Late entries may be excepted due to circumstances.
  • Only sounds produced from the participants body are allowed.
  • Avoid copying another Beatboxers routine that has already been publicly performed.
  • Aggressive/ dangerous body contact will lead to automatic disqualification.
  • The Judges decision is final.
  • Participants will need to be alert and near the stage area at the beginning of the proceedings. If you do not come to the stage within 3 minutes of your name being called, you will be automatically disqualified.
  • We will be not be chasing up entrants if they haven’t completed all steps of the entry process
  • You will be required to sign a lease form allowing the footage to be put online
  • For those wishing to also compete in The UK Beatbox Championships, please be aware of their rule
