Sennheiser E945 Microphone Review

Coming in at $220, the Sennheiser E945 is a beautifully crafted microphone fit for a beatboxer with deeper pockets and a higher budget. The dynamic, hum-compensating, supercardioid microphone is loved by musicians for its sturdiness, warmth, and an impressive ability to withhold intense pressure. Let’s dig into what that all means.

The Design

The first thing you’ll notice is the ergonomic design of this microphone. The blue-tinted grill is incredibly natural to hold, and we believe feels better than the AKGD7, which is a little boxier, and the Beta58A which is a little too round for our liking. The full metallic body is unquestionably sturdy and you’ll feel that immediately, especially since this microphone lies on the heavier side, weighing 365 grams. In comparison, the Shure Beta 58A weighs 282 grams.

What are the specifications?

Here’s what you will get right out of the box.

The Sound

The biggest dilemma beatboxers face when searching for the right microphone is finding one that can accentuate both extremely low and extremely high sounds, which is determined by its frequency response and impedance.

The sturdiness of the E945’s large body helps exactly that, championing an incredible range between 40 to 18,000 Hz. In comparison, the Shure Beta 58 ranges from 40 to 16,000 Hz.

The E945 also possesses a whopping 1000 ohm output impedance, which is unmatched by any other microphone within this price range. The two most notable features of the E945 are the hum compensating coil and the shock-mounted capsule. The coil helps reduce any unnecessary electrical interference and the capsule reduces any major handling noise. Overall, from a beatboxer’s perspective, the E945 has an incredible range that delivers both the highs and the lows in a clear and well-balanced manner.

How to properly use the E945

We threw around a ton of big words here, but there are a few things you’ll have to note. The super cardioid pattern means that it’ll pick up sound primarily from the most central location of the grill on the microphone, BUT it will also pick up some pressure from the body and towards the back of the microphone, which is why you should be sure to cup the mic tightly.

Additionally, never point the back of the microphone directly into a monitor. Instead, have the monitors point at you diagonally to minimize any unnecessary frequency responses.

We here at Humanbeatbox.com are huge fans of the E945 - and beatboxers like Mr. Wobbles and VOIID also agree. It’s an excellent microphone if you have some extra cash in your pocket. Its high-quality build along with its ability to hold immense pressure are the two main reasons why we think you should consider purchasing this mic!
